About Me
Hello, my name is Afolakemi Akinrefon and I am a junior in the College of Medicine- Medical Sciences major, minoring in public health and chemistry. I am originally from Indianapolis, Indiana where I lived with my family as the oldest child. An interesting fact about me is that I am a first-generation American citizen since my parents are immigrants from Nigeria who came over during their young-adult age. This is something that has impacted me greatly and shaped me into the person I am today as a child raised with Nigerian and American values.

My top strengths include empathy, positivity, developer, includer, and relator. These are all relationship-building strengths and are something I plan on using to help me towards my future goals. My future goal as a Pre-Med major is to eventually go to Physician Assistant School and work as a Primary Care PA. Right now, I am very interested in working in pediatrics due to my love of being around and taking care of children.
I decided to become a part of the University Honors Program in hopes of being open to many different opportunities. Through the next four years at the University of Cincinnati as an Honors student, I hope to join many seminar classes. Currently I have completed two seminar classes; Intermediate Composition and Music and Memory (which also worked as a service learning course). I plan on joining more seminars in the future such as Social Justice Awareness and Global Health Experiences taught by Dr. Selzer. I have recently completed one of my college goals of going on a study tour; one of the seminars called Democratizing Healthcare had a study abroad component in Germany. So for 10 days, me and a group of 20 other students explored another country and it left such a big impact on me.
